This list of Saturn’s moons is part of an ongoing interest in the planet of Saturn which has been the subject of much speculation and much rumour over the years. For example, did you know that Saturn has 53 named moons and a further nine moons which are yet to be fully studied? Did you know that some of these moons are less than 6 miles in diameter and the vast majority are named after Greek gods, Roman gods, Giants or Titans?
Saturn itself is the sixth planet from the sun and the second-largest planet in the solar system although in reality it is commonly known as a “gas giant”. It is not known exactly what is inside the core of Saturn but many scientists speculate it is a mixture of iron, nickel, oxygen, silicon and other various components. The inner core of Saturn is layered by liquid hydrogen and liquid helium with a gas outer coating. The rings of Saturn are probably the main reason why the planet itself has attracted the attention of many scientists and indeed it is in many ways a focal point of education in relation to the solar system.
