Reasons for leaving a job

If you are looking to find a new job then one of the questions you will be asked in your interview is likely to relate to reasons for leaving your old job. So what reasons for leaving a job should you mention in an interview?

Progression – if you show yourself to be ambitious and believe that your chances were limited at your old company this will go down as a very positive move.

Money – while very often people say never to mention money in a job interview at the end of the day it is what keeps us in the lives we are accustomed to. There is nothing wrong with being ambitious and looking to earn more money with the right job.

Change of career – while many people will argue you should not mention a change of career when looking for a new job, the truth is that you will not always find your perfect job from day one. It may take a number of career changes before you feel settled and happy.

Better opportunities – many people will start work on a very low pay scale and often see people joining the company with similar experience in years to come who are paid substantially more money. Sometimes it is best to move away from the company that which you learned your profession and use your skills, which may be appreciated more, elsewhere.

You were not happy – in simple terms there will be job opportunities which you take on which you will find do not suit your needs and your requirements and ultimately you will not be happy. If you are unhappy at your place of work your efficiency and your productivity will suffer and ultimately it may well be time to look elsewhere.
